While sitting in Bojangles I saw that all the employees wore headsets so they could hear the drive through and talk to each other and I was wondering: what exactly are those? Are they a short range two way radio? Or something else? Thanks!

Unscripted, rambling review of my bug out bag’s communications. Shortwave, AM, FM, VHF, UHF, Police, Fire, GMRS & FRS frequencies all covered with these two radios that combined weigh about 1.5 pounds. The Baofeng handheld is a very interesting radio. EXCELLENT bang for your buck! In an emergency it gives you a very wide range of transmit/receive capability. The Tecsun PL-380 puts the world at your fingertips, and features Digital Signal Processing. I did a TON of research before settling on this radio. BEST shortwave receiver in my opinion, all things considered, in it’s price class. I have had it on a few outings now, and it brings a new angle to camping, cooking your spam on the fire and listening to the news from thousands of miles away overseas. KNOWLEDGE is not only power- in a SHTF situation it can mean your life. Without a radio, how would you know to avoid certain areas? I researched these two radios at length, and combined their total cost is less than 0, even with a pack of rechargeable batteries thrown in! So I heard that its best to have a two way radio so that everyone will keep in touch in case cell phones fail.
We will be going from Michigan, to Chicago, to New York.
I need something that is cheap, and can handle car rides so that we wont have problems speaking to one another.
I am already thinking about purchasing the Motorola MJ27OR two way radio from Walmart.
It says 22 channels plus 8 relay channels. Is this true? Would it make 30 channels? Also does it really work?
Police, Fire, CBers, Ham Operators, City Workers, Ambulances, Jackson County Sheriff & more on the Albion Raw Feed – Unedited, uncut…
can you talk to one another I’m just wondering for a small business
My first Dual Band Walkie Talkie i bought from China. It cost around the same with the price in Ebay around USD100 as well. But i have 1 pair but i cant test the battery and the distance without going back to Malaysia first cos my brother is there. There is no one around here that is interested to help me to test the distance. hahaha 2011109: Latest updates… The battery life is around 1 day around 23 hours for a new battery. i had 4 batteries and all of it can last for 23 hours or more provided its a 60% receive, 10 % transmit & 30% standby. Distance is around 2km in diameter in a very dense packed housing are with a lot of row of houses and with 1 walkie inside a ground floor house while the other unit is outside of the housing area. There is a small hill around my house and its also 2km in diameter and from hilltop to inside of the house its very clear but from the house to hilltop the sound starts to disperse… I have 6 Uniden GMR1235-2 and 2 Midland XT20 FRS radio. Both can used in a 2km beach to behind the island communication so i guess Wouxun with 4watt will be longer and better than this. I’m still thinking how to fix an antenna to it.. =P Max freq for my unit is 121.0 to 174.0 mhz and 350 to 520mhz (T&R) other freq appears to be able to transmit but it cant actually cos i have a pair and i have tried it… Weird huh…. Anything else?
This recording was made in Southern Michigan on 1/10/2012 – sidebanding freebanders on lower sideband. Unlike the many that use AM, such as truckers and the mentally disadvantaged, a lot of operators stick with sideband because, well, sidebanders are polite, friendly and easy going. They’re also a bit smarter.
